Q.What is This New Bankruptcy Law and Can I Still File For Bankruptcy?

A.The Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005, a major reform of the bankruptcy system, was passed and signed into law by President Bush in April 2005. The majority of changes instituted took effect on October 17, 2005.

Although there were many changes to the bankruptcy system, the majority of individuals drowning in debt will still be able to file for bankruptcy.
