Q.If I file for bankruptcy, will that stop my Landlord from Evicting Me from my apartment?

A.Once an individual files for bankruptcy, they are entitled to what is called an "automatic stay" which stops many types of legal actions pending against the bankruptcy petitioner. However, as of October 17, 2005 (when the new bankruptcy laws took effect), filing for bankruptcy will no longer delay or stop an eviction action.
