Q.Can I fire an employee if I receive a notice of a wage garnishment?

A.No. Under federal law, an employer may not discharge or discipline an employee simply because a wage garnishment for "any one indebtedness" was received. In some states, however, it is apparently permissible for an employer to caution employees about the consequences of multiple garnishments.
