Q.How long does it take to foreclose a property in California?

A.If you are contemplating letting a home fall into foreclosure, the good news is you can stay in your home FREE for about six months from the date you miss your first payment. Depending on the timing of the various required notices, it usually takes a minimum of 120 days for the lender to send a Notice of Default and another two months to effectuate an uncontested non-judicial foreclosure.

The process may be delayed if the borrower contests the action in court, seeks delays and adjournments of sales, or files for bankruptcy.
