Q.What is a Health Care proxy?

A.A health care proxy (a.k.a. health care surrogate, durable power of attorney for health care) is a legal document that allows you to appoint a trustworthy adult to make medical decisions on your behalf in the event you are unable to express your wishes (unconscious or delirious, but not terminally ill). As with the Living Will, your treating physician will typically make the initial determination as to whether you have the capacity to make your own medical treatment decisions.
